Job Description
ABOUT THE ROLE:
With the recent local and world market shift towards zero emission vehicles and benefitting from Volgren’s strong focus on the design and development of innovative new bus solutions, we are looking to increase our workforce at this exciting time with talented individuals contributing to the overall success of our company.
We are looking for a Construction Team Leader to join our team within our Dandenong facility. In this hands-on position, you will have a strong drive and motivation to succeed and be able to work in a safety conscious environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure that safety and 5s policies and procedures are adhered to.
Monitor and audit safety and 5S policies and procedures.
Be proactive in preventing safety incidents.
Assist in the analysis of tasks and risks, and the investigation of incidents and near misses.
Support and supervise back to work programs.
Prioritise issues to ensure that most urgent items are solved first. Safety, Quality, delivery and cost to be considered in that order.
Report any observed act or reported incidents (verbal or written) involving Code of Conduct, safety, bullying, harassment, intimidation, fighting, verbal abuse or any other acts of violence and crime immediately to the Section Leader or Production Manager.
Ensure that serious issues which affect the duty of care are resolved on the shop floor with the involvement of the Production Manager.
Regular check on operators for their requirements and assistance or support. Supervising the floor up to 70-80% of their time.
Prioritise problems and concerns from the floor and take actions. Report major problems or concerns to Section Leaders and use Take 5 and concern strips to record and address improvements.
Coordinate resources for addressing material shortages and quality concern issues,
Ensuring appropriate delegation, making sure that they are available for any queries on the shop floor.
Communicate with their direct team constantly in a proactive and supportive manner. Communicate to other departments to help with problem solving and report to management on progress of current targets.
Able to do shift rotation (anticipated weekly) with the other section Team Leader as required.
Able to work on the job with their team to achieve their goals.
Use checklists or other methods to monitor the quality of products during build to ensure compliance to quality and workmanship standards.
Do not allow poor quality products to leave section without informing management and developing an agreed catch-up plan.
Be proactive in chasing material shortages.
Embed and model company values and code of conduct across the team.
Deliver verbal or written warning that are pre-approved/authorised by the Section Leader
Deliver technical training and support to production staff to ensure compliance to Operating Procedures and Quality Checklists.
Be equipped to administer First Aid to any injured worker onsite.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Management qualification/ Diploma and Leadership experience, Trade Qualification /trade experience required to a Team Leader.
This position also requires the applicant to undertake a pre-employment medical which includes a drug and alcohol analysis, musculoskeletal evaluation, and hearing test.
